Here are some that some teachers are using. Pick and choose which ones work for you and your school.
- When you enter the room, please have your microphone turned off, unless it is a one-to-one meeting.
- During the meeting, always have your video on, with you on screen, so that we know you are there!
- In group meetings, turn your mic on to speak, and then back off when you're done.
- Make sure your full face is on screen, rather than just the top of your face on the bottom of the screen!
- Make sure that you are well-lit!
- Negotiate with others in your house to have the room to yourself if possible, and if not, to at least work quietly so as not to disturb your focus. Make sure and frame these as requests, using the word "please," and without making angry demands!
- If you are using a wifi pack from school, request or negotiate times so that you are the only one using the pack during your meeting time, and perhaps during your study time if it's slowing your class videos down.
- Write questions at any time in the comments/chat section on the right! Don't worry about interrupting the speaker, as the teacher can answer when they are ready!
- You may feel embarrassed to show your face at first! That is normal! BUT do be prepared to be presentable! This is a really important time for us to connect to each other as human beings!
- Be prepared to wave "Hi!" and "Bye!"
- It's preferable to have the meeting on your laptop/Chromebook, even though the video is clearer on your phone! That's because it's easier to write things out in the chat, and work in the computer.
- Have your handwritten notes handy, so that you can show them at any time to your teacher, AND so you can use them to TAKE notes. If you have a phone, you will likely be asked to PHOTOGRAPH THE NOTES (make sure the writing is clear) then and there, and UPLOAD them to a special place in Google Classroom.
- Set aside a special time, and create a schedule, for when you will be studying for a specific class. It doesn't matter whether it's 9-11am, or it's 1am-3am! You know the best times for you to have focus in your house. Just make sure you are consistent, do not procrastinate, and get it done before you go to sleep!
- Sign in/nod/type in "I'M HERE MR. BROWN" if you are late to the meeting.
