IT's ABOUT SPEED, BABy!

And knowing a thing or two about a thing or two, so that you feel safe, before you get too lost...

This all may not seem important now, but if you notice that you're always one of the last ones, well, let's start ahead for the race to glory and fame while we're here at the starting gate!

FIRST OF ALL, THIS IS A LOT LIKE TEXTING!
You can text your mother, "Don't worry, mom, I'm just here by myself" faster than she can even find the place to text you back. You can do it with one hand, with your thumbs, in the dark...

SECOND OF ALL, THIS IS NOTHING LIKE TEXTING!

You need notes.  You need light.  You need to sit up over the keyboard.  YOU NEED TWO HANDS!  And yes, time matters!  You've got to know where to put things, because if there's anything designers know, it's that there's always a DEADLINE, and if you miss it, you just lost all your customers.

Don't be a slouch!
POSTURE:
Be in an upright position, so that your both elbows are free, both hands are free, with the fingers lightly resting on the:
a, s, d, f (left hand)     j, k. l, ; (right hand), ready to spring into action!

Simple concept: use your left hand for the left side of the keyboard; use your right hand for the right side of the keyboard. THIS IS SO YOU CAN WATCH WHAT'S HAPPENING ON YOUR SCREEN, INSTEAD OF LOOKING AT THE KEYBOARD.  Thumbs can both use the Space Bar.  Index fingers to "select" an object on your touchpad, middle finger along with it to "drag" an object.  Fingers rest on the middle row of letters (practice finding "F" and "J" with your eyes closed).

KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS
A list that will keep getting longer and longer, week by week!
Hold these keys down both at the same time, always with the Control or Shift key pressed first.

  • Ctrl + C = Copy
  • Ctrl + V = Paste
  • Ctrl + D = Duplicate
  • Ctrl + X = Cut, but save for use later
  • Ctrl + Z = Undo
  • Ctrl + Shift + Z = Redo

  • Ctrl + Screens (Above the 6 key) = Full Screenshot
  • Ctrl + Shift + Screens = Specific Screenshot

By the way, dragging things into your folders usually works better from the right side of your screen to the left.

And FOLDER view on the left is easier to see how your stuff is organized, more than the "Recent" pictures that show up right away in the main area.

  • Holding down Shift while clicking each object = Selecting several objects,  or...
  • Drag cursor from outside of frame & across several objects = Selecting several objects
  • Holding down Shift & clicking object again = Deselect an object among a group of selected objects
  • Ctrl + A = Select all objects on page
  • Shift + drag from corner anchors = enlarge or shrink w/o distortion
